Aerobic Fitness Testing - Test Your Endurance Levels Here

Thinking about adding some aerobic exercise to your routine? Training for a 10K? Aerobic fitness testing will help you decide where your aerobic fitness levels stand and where you should start your aerobic training.

Why is Aerobic Fitness important?

Testing your aerobic fitness levels are important because it lets you know how well your heart can deliver oxygen to your body during activity. Basically, your aerobic fitness level is an indicator of your heart's health. If you are having trouble going up a flight of stairs at work, then your heart needs a serious health jump start.

Aerobic exercise helps your heart deliver blood to your body more efficiently and with less effort.

Testing your aerobic fitness every month can help you get a good idea on your heart's health and your aerobic progress if you started a new program.

Start Your Aerobic Fitness Testing

One Mile Test

If it has been a while since you've done aerobic exercise, you should start here.

Find yourself a stopwatch, or a watch with a second hand, and a 1 mile stretch. Preferably a flat stretch. 4 times around a race track is a mile.

Stretch out very good. If you haven't worked in a while, you will be more prone to injury. Be safe.

After warming up, walk as fast as you can for 1 mile. Mark the time. Take your heart rate by placing two fingers on the underside of your wrist, or by placing two fingers on the side of your neck to the right or left of you trachea, and counting the beats for 1 minute.

1.5 Run

If you're feeling energetic, or feel you could walk 1 mile easily, then try running 1.5 miles as fast as you can. Mark your time and heart rate.

How Do You Rank?

If your initial results are lower than you had hoped for, that's OK. Try running a few seconds faster every week. The more your work on your aerobic fitness, the better you will be able to perform. Your heart will thank you.

If running is not for you, then you may want to try working on your aerobic fitness levels by performing Plyometrics. Plyometrics are another great way for you to work on your aerobic fitness levels and may be more enjoyable to those who find running a bit dull.
