Daily Vitamin Supplements and Protein Supplements - What you need and why they are important.

Thinking of taking daily vitamin supplements or adding a protein supplement to your workout routine. Not sure which products are the right ones for you. There are hundrads of websites out there offering you the latest vitamin or mineral to change your life. Find out what you really need here.

I myself am not a big a fan of over supplementation, but I do recognize the benefits of taking vitamins. With today's food processing, pesticides, and hormone treatment, our food is not as hardy as it use to be. As we age, it becomes more difficult for our bodies to absorb all the nutrients from our food. So the best way to battle back is by taking daily vitamin supplements.

What vitamins should I take?

The best thing you can do is go to your doctor and have him or her perform a blood test that tells you which vitamins and minerals you are deficient in. Most people are calcium deficient or if you live in an area with less sun, Vitamin D deficient.

I recommend a regular multi-vitamin to replace all your daily vitamin supplements. It will have all the essential vitamins and minerals you need including Vitamins A,C,D, and E.

Women, remember to take a multivitamin high in calcium with at least 40% of your daily requirement. Men will also benefit from the higher calcium as well. Osteoporosis is more common in females, but does occur in males as well.

Multivitamins for females also are a good source of folic acid for women preparing for pregnancy.

The only other supplement I recommend is fish oil. If you do not eat fish on a regular basis then you are missing out on Omega-3 fatty acids. Benefits include:

  • A healthier heart
  • Improved immune response
  • Improved nervous system function
  • Healthier joints
  • Helps to maintain normal cholesterol

If you are interested in natural drinks that help boost your vitamin and mineral intake, try looking into health juices such as gogi or acai.
