Be A Kid Again - Having Fun With Fitness

Remember when you could have fun with fitness? You would be outside running around, jumping, climbing and rolling for hours without complaint. Remember begging your mother for 5 more minutes when she called you in for dinner?

Play is a word we seem to associate only with little kids, but adults can play too. There's nothing wrong with going out and exercising to have fun. Join a local sports team playing soccer, softball, or table tennis. Heck I play in a dodgeball league.

This past year I decided that I was going to allow myself to have fun getting fit again. I was going to give myself every excuse to get outside and have fun. Whether it was walking with my friend and her dog, playing dodgeball, or even enjoying a few games of kickball.

Your workout does not have to be the same old boring thing day in and day out. You don't have to keep looking at your watch while you are on the bike or treadmill. Try to get back to the days when "getting fit" happened accidentally.

For most of us, the weight gain we see as we age occurs because of a lack in activity. I know we are all busy, but even making time on your weekends to get out of the house helps. Little steps add up to big results.

If you are a parent, get involved in your child's activities. Go outside and play catch, take them fishing, go on a bike ride or enjoy a hike. Do not be afraid to take a swing on the monkey bars at the playground. Just because you're all grown up now does not mean you have to stop having fun with fitness.
