What are the best weight loss tips out there? The short and simple answer is to change your diet and change your exercise level.

Quick Weight Loss Tips for Diet & Nutrition

Our bodies work much like a car. We put fuel in and use it when we use our muscles to do something. Too bad our stomachs can't be overfueled like our gas tanks.

You gain a pound every time you eat 3500 unused calories. Sound like alot? Eating an extra hundred calories a day can lead to you gaining a pound every month. 12 lbs by the end of the year! Fortunately for us, the whole process is reversible.

Spot reduction or spot toning are not possible. In order to lose those love handles, or slim those arms and egs, you are going to have to lose weight. Below are some quick weight loss tips on how you can do that.

Simple Diet Changes That Work

  • Eat whole grains: I told a friend of mine not to eat any carbs unless they had at least 2 grams of fiber per serving. She followed my advice and needless to say she lost a lot of weight quickly.

    Fiber helps you feel fuller longer and can keep you from snacking or eating more at a sitting. Also, your body cannot digest fiber. So every gram of fiber you eat is 4 calories off your daily total. Eat the recommended 25-35g a day and that's 100-160 calories a day.

  • Cut Out The Extra Sugar: The tough thing about today is that excess sugar is put into everything. If you like your coffee sweet, try some Splendor or other sweetener. It will save you 60 calories a tablespoon.

    If you like soda, drink diet or flavored water. Stay away from high processed sweets and desserts. It's ok to allow yourself a treat here and there but don't go overboard.

  • Eat More Protein: I am not talking about going on Atkin's here, I am talking about getting 30-40% of your calories from lean protein.

    Protein helps you build muscle, which helps you burn more calories. Combine protein with exercise and your body can't help but slim down.

  • NEVER Skip Meals: If you skip a meal your body goes into starvation mode. It will decrease energy output by lowering your metabolism in an effort to save fat and muscle stores. If you are trying to lose weight, you do not want a slower metabolism.

    Skipping meals can also lead to cravings and binge eating.

  • Practice Portion Control: I have many British co-workers and they were always amazed by how much food you get in the restaraunts here. Most people do not know what a proper porition size is.

    • 3 oz. meat: size of a deck of cards (1 serving)

    • 1 oz. cheese: size of 4 dice

    • Medium potato: size of a computer mouse

    • 1/2 cup pasta: size of a base ball

    • Serving sized bagel: size of a hockey puck

    Common practices at and away from home

    • Practice packaging or measuring out your portions at home

    • Buy 100 calories snack packs

    • Ask for half of your meal to be wrapped when eating out

    • Order a small fry or soda instead of a large

    • Bring your own lunch to work

  • Get Moving!

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator

  • Park further away

  • Walk the dog around the block

  • Use Muscle Confusion: Your muscles get used to doing the same thing over and over. If you want the pounds to melt away, change up your routine every 3-4 weeks. By doing this, you confuse your muscles, always making them responsive to your workouts.

    Usually, people hit a plateau in their weight loss. Don't slow down your weight loss progress. Keep it consistent by always keeping your body guessing.
