The Side Effects of Diet Pills - Why You Should Not Take Them

Many people desperate to lose weight jump on the pill bandwagon without knowing the side effects of diet pills they take. A number of pills exist offering great fat burning results, but rarely do these products empasize the side effects of taking their pills.

Many products on the market, including a lot of herbal formulas, are not approved by the FDA. I'm not sure about you, but I do not feel comfortable putting something in my body that has not been thoroughly tested by science.

Let's go over some of the side effects of these diet products.

Gastroinstestinal Side Effects of Diet Pills

Many diet pills work by adjusting the bodies ability to absorb fat. This leads to excess fat in you GI system causing oily spotting, flatus with discharge, fecal urgency, fatty/oily stoll, increased defication, and fecal incontinence. Some may even suffer from abdominal pain, nausea, infectious diarrhea, and rectal pain.

Decrease in Vitamin Absorption

A number of vitamins in our body rely on fat to be absorbed into our systems. These include vitamins A,D,E,K and Beta-carotene. Due to diet pills blocking fat uptake, it is very easy to become deficient in these vitamins. Vitamin D is especially important for the uptake of calcium.

Preventing the uptake of both vitamin D and calcium can cause bone loss and lead to osteoporosis.

Increase in Blood Pressure

Some diet pills work via norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine reuptake inhibitors. This can cause a signifitcant increase in blood pressure for some persons. Serious side effects can occur in those with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias or stroke.

Persons taking these typs of diet pills can also suffer from headache, hypertension, constipation, nausea, thirst, joint disorder, insomnia, dizziness, acne, and anxiety justto name a few.

They Can Actually Make you Gain Weight

Unlike diet and exercise, diet pills do not teach you about proper nutrition and portion control. Many claim to work without you even changing your diet - the most likely cause of weight gain.

The problem with this is that when you stop taking these diet pills, all the weight you lost comes right back. Sometimes even more. Why?

Because you have done nothing to change the original problem behind your weight gain, the weight eventually comes back. Not only have you not got to the root of your weight gain problems, now your body is abosorbing all this fat is was not allowed to absorb before.

Think of the last time you denied yourself something and what happened when you finally gave in to your craving. Your body feels the same way, wanting to store fat as a back up source of energy.

Conclusion

Unless you are a person prescribed diet pills by your physician for treatment of Metabloic Syndrome or Syndrome X, I highly discourage you from taking diet pills.

Diet and exercise will teach you how to properly maintain your body's weight without the side effects of diet pills. As in the story of the tortoise and the hare - slow and steady always wins the race.
